Now you know me and how I love romance anime. So rest assured, I will always be here to talk about the romance anime coming out in any given season. This season included. We’ve got a standard rom-com in ‘Alya sometimes hides her feelings in Russian’. A spicy stepbrother step-sister anime in ‘Days with my Stepsister’ (because it’s Japan and why not). Then finally we have the ever so spicy, ‘Love is Indivisible by twins’. Are there any pure romance anime that came out this season? No. Nevertheless, I’ve been watching them so you have to read about it.
I will do 3 different posts. One for each show. So that this post doesn’t become like 1500 words lol.
1-Alya sometimes hides her feelings in Russian
Now I won’t lie, I had decided to ignore this show. I read the premise and was like lmao this actually sounds very average I’m not watching it. Standard classroom beauty queen, and student council member, (Silver-haired Alya) falls for the lazy but kind and gentle normal dude who sits next to her. Normal Anime Rom-Com stuff. Except this time she only shows her feelings, WHILE SPEAKING RUSSIAN. (I know right real creative stuff). But yes, I had decided to leave this show alone. Only to find out that it’s the most-watched show of the summer season according to https://polls.animecorner.me/

(Not counting shows still currently airing from spring such as the Slime Isekai and My Hero Academia)
So obviously I had to see what all the hype was about. What did I discover you ask? That anime fans will really watch anything where the lazy and uncharismatic guy gets the best girl in the class.
Y’ALL AREN’T SLICK! (I joke I joke).
Honestly, the show is well written the characters aren’t too one-dimensional meaning that interactions don’t feel like speaking to a chatbot when the characters are talki….
You know what?
I’m lying.
The show is extremely predictable and even more generic. Well written definitely but I was probably just trying to justify its current popularity by saying things I wish the show was. The only thing I can see that would have rocketed the show to the top of the charts the way that it has is the fans pure love and admiration for Yuki.
She is everything you could possibly want and some.
You want a calm elegant, student council/president type, she’s got you.
You want a silent Otaku to talk about your nerd stuff with you, she has your back.
You want that weird brother-sister love that is, for some reason still extremely popular in Japan. No problem.
She is all these things and more rolled into one amazingly awesome character and honestly, if it wasn’t for her I probably would have dropped the show and stopped watching it.
All in all, do I think the shows popularity is warranted? Yes, I think that in terms of an anime rom-com, the show is well written and interesting, in fact better than most that come out in this genre. But do I think there are far better shows that you could be watching instead of this? Also, yes.
So feel free to check the show out and let me know what you think about it and whether I’m being too harsh.
