Crunchyroll Anime Awards are here !!!
Hello, Greetings and welcome to Anime Savepoint
The anime awards are just 5 days away and there's a lot to be excited about. Here are a few of the categories I will be paying attention to and who I want to win.
Anime of the year
The Anime of the Year vote is close this year. In my opinion, the 3 main contenders for this award are Solo Leveling, Frieren: Beyond Journeys End, and DAN DA DAN. Apothecary Diaries was nominated too, which, of course, makes me extremely happy, but let's be honest, it has no chance of winning.
I believe Frieren should win this award. Closely followed by DANDADAN then solo leveling afterwards. Let me be clear all these shows are amazing. That’s why they are on this list. But the way I see it Solo Leveling has the best action, Frieren has the best story and DAN DA DAN is a perfect middle between the 2. Personally out of the 3, I enjoyed Frieren the most which is why it gets my vote.
Delicious in Dungeon was also nominated and while it is a very spectacular show I don’t think it can compare to the 3 above.
Best Continuing series
The best continuing series is probably going to be One Piece and let's be honest it deserves it. What One Piece was doing last year was absolutely phenomenal and I doubt that any shows out there will be able to compete with the way the Wano arc ended.
BUT! That doesn’t mean it got my vote.
I voted for Oshi no ko. Y’all already know how much I love this show and It’s season 2 was just as amazing as season 1. While I don’t think that any of the nominees can beat One Piece that doesn’t mean I can’t vote for what I want. The only shows I see giving One Piece a run for its money are Bleach and My Hero Academia in this category.
Best Original anime
The best original anime for me was Jellyfish Cant Swim in the Night. The interactions and banter between the wanna-be superstars trying to make it in the industry just flowed so beautifully. Not to mention the story was always engaging and the musical score was great. I don’t see any of the other Nominees deserving it more than this show.
The only other anime I think could manage to give this show a run for its money are Bucchigiri and Train to the End of the World. Train to the end of the world was really good but in the end not better than ‘Jellies can't swim’. Bucchigiri was just a worse windbreaker so in my opinion that settles that.
Best Animation
If we were talking about 2025 anime SO FAR, then I believe that Solo leveling would win the best animation award. However, since we're talking about the anime that came out in 2024 the best animation has to go to DAN DA DAN in my opinion. The show delivered in every single way that it had to in its own unique style. I can't see any other shows being better.
The only other show I could see giving DANDADAN an issue in this category is Demon Slayer. While the actual Demon Slayer season was very lackluster, in the end, it is still the greatest to ever do it and we shouldn’t take that lightly.
Best Romance
For me, the best romance from last here has to be A sign of Affection. This was a show that didn’t hide behind the popular theme of romance comedy anime. It was pure romance. Our deaf protagonist had to find other ways of conveying her love and emotions to us viewers and I think the way the show went about doing this was absolutely incredible.
That being said The Dangers in My Heart is most definitely going to win this award and I can't even say I'm surprised. Even though It’s not what I would personally vote for, I can definitely give credit where it is due.
The surprise pick for this category for me is Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. While I would prefer if one of the other anime won I wouldn’t be mad if this one got a shout-out.
Best Comedy Anime
If we are speaking purely comedy anime then I would like to think that Konosuba should definitely take this award home without any issues. Or maybe Mashle (even though it is primarily an Action anime). Mashle does have quite a few hilarious moments.
However, the anime awards have always been a weird place where anything can happen. Like the nomination of Delicious in Dungeon for best comedy anime. What I personally think happened here is the big dawgs at Crunchyroll watched the first 4 episodes and thought “Cool this is a comedy anime” before the show got super serious and took us all on an amazing ride through the dungeon.
I honestly have no idea who will win this category but if I were to pick it would be between those 3.
Best Drama
With every fiber of my being!
I hope Apothecary Diaries beats Pluto and Frieren to win the best drama anime. If I’m being completely honest I think that Pluto slightly edges out Apothecary Diaries in terms of the actual drama that both shows deliver while you watch. Pluto really was some of the most blood-pressure-inducing anime that I watched last year.
But I just love Apothecary diaries and you all know this. Not necessarily more than Frieren but I NEED want Apothecary Diaries to take an award home.
