Anime SavePoint. This week in anime (May 8th-15th)
Hello, greetings and welcome to Anime Savepoint
The Stage is set, and all the cast has arrived.
Whether it be returning titans looking to maintain their status.
Powerful underdogs trying to cause an upset.
Or underground upstarts trying to make a name for themselves.
The Spring season is now fully underway. So let's not waste any time and dive right in.
1-Demon Slayer Episode 1 (S4):
Demon Slayer is back and starts with a 48-minute episode setting the scene for the Hashira training arc. A lot of us have high hopes for this season considering that the Sword-Smith village wasn’t everything that we hoped it would be. It’s still absolutely breathtaking obviously, but didn’t reach the monumental heights that Demon Slayer has set for itself in the past.
I haven’t read the Manga so I honestly have no idea what to expect from this season. Other than some good training arc content and quite a bit of lore finally being shared. However from what I’ve heard from people who have read the manga we’re now getting to the real business end of the series. This coupled with Ufotables mastery and genius makes this a must-watch this season.
2-My Hero Academia episode 2 (S7): (MUST WATCH!)
It’s been a while since a My Hero Academia episode gave me genuine goosebumps. But this one most certainly did. The true heroic vibes that made the show so adored in the first place are put on full display in episode 2. Being willing to do everything necessary for the greater good and your comrades. All with a smile on your face. That’s what MHA is all about.
If there is more of this to come this season then I think it is just what the show needs to get back to where it used to be in our hearts and appease their rabid fanbase.
3-Kaiju No.8 episode 5:
This week’s episode of Kaiju No.8 gives us a second to breathe after all the bombastically awesome Shonen carnage that we saw last week. Getting to see the light hearted nature of the show really shine through and watch the banter and dynamic between the team members is always a plus in my book and I hope there is more if it to come.
They also clearly know their audience well, because at the end of the episode what’s shown implies were going to be thrown right back into the action.
(AS IT SHOULD BE!)
4-Windbreaker Episode 6:
I don’t think enough of us are taking Windbreaker seriously enough. The fight choreography and production quality are top tier and this show will definitely receive its flowers come the end of its run this year.
Do I have anything bad to say? No not really. Sure, the show is a little cringy at times, with all its talk of friendship and senpai’s making people feel “warm and safe”. But I feel like this is one of the main selling points of the show.
Like in Episode 6 for example. They could have just made it another slapdash brawl between angsty teenagers. But instead decided to give the fight meaning and heart. Two characters I personally had overlooked (since they didn’t even seem that interesting) are put center stage and the episode shines because of it.
Sometimes it’s good to let out a little cringe and be honest with our feelings and maybe Windbreaker will be the show that shows us how to do it.
5-Go-Go Loser Ranger episode 5:
I think we’re now starting to see the bigger picture when it comes to Go-Go Loser Ranger. The show is taking its time and moving at its own pace. It seems like they’re going to work their way through each character that we met in episode 5. Showing us their strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. But not at a rushed pace. Making for a deeper and more reasonably paced storyline afterward. Rather than doing what Shonen shows usually do which is make them all have a party and meet each other over drinks.
Episode 5 showed us so many new and interesting faces and I personally want them all to get their fair share of screen time so we get to know them all properly.
I really should get up to date with go, go, loser ranger.
